Borderlands inventory question?

How do I increase the amount of items that I can hold in my inventory in Borderlands? I'm a level 19 soldier and I just beat Sledge, if that means anything. Right now I can only hold 12 items, and it's really f*cking annoying to have to constantly drop/sell weapons to get new ones.
