Drug testing in the emergency room?

A friend had an on the job accident that was not serious. His supervisor accidentally hit his hand with a sledge hammer when he told my friend to hold a pin so he could hammer it. He was brought to the emergency room for x-rays and examination. He filled out a form with family illnesses. Diabetes runs in his family so he checked yes on that one. The nurse asked for a urine sample so she could check his sugar level in his blood. My friend would like to know if in this situation, he would be drug tested without his knowledge since it was an accident that happened on the job, and his employer is a stickler for safety concerns. He will have to wait until tomorrow to find out the x ray results to see if his finger is broken.
