What movie is this? It's a weird one..?

I saw this movie in high school.. I'm fairly certain we watched it in French class although it may have been in English (class). All I remember is there is a part where I believe it's a woman gets into trouble for something and is put in this standing up like suit of armor thing but it has a space at the eyes so whoever is put in it can see out. I believe it's in a basement. This movie is also older- definitely not made in the 2000s, maybe early 90s or late 80s.. and I also believe it's foreign- not an American film. That's really all I remember from it.. anyone have any clue?
