Flagstone/stone on top of concrete?

We have a concrete patio 25 years old. It has two surface cracks and one deeper one that we repaired by sanding down and filling. The soil below is adobe. We'd like to cover the concrete with stone, but are aware that we don't know if the original concrete is reinforced in any way. We have heard of "Latex modified thinset" as a base then trowel it - then put on the stones on top. We are concerned about movement (northern California & the cracks already in the patio) - so, should we just sledge hammer out the concrete and start over(ugh) or can we move forward? We will likely hire someone to do the work, but we'd like a heads up on how to talk about it so we don't get the wrong information. Any help will be delightful. There are no Lowes/Home Depots near us to ask these questions to. Thanx !

Seedlings sprouting pre-maturely where the rest hasn't?

Some seeds just sprout earlier. Most of my plants say 7-14 days on the packets but some sprouted as early as 3 days if the conditions were right. There is nothing wrong with this happening and is quite normal.

Mock pear roots sprouting leaves everywhere?

We have a mock pear tree in our yard and its roots are sprouting what looks like little trees all over around it. My question is how on earth do I get rid of them? They are horrible! I keep cutting them down and in no time they grow right back up. I would try spraying them with something but I'm afraid of killing my tree in the process. I currently have about a 6 foot ring of mulch around the trunk. Thats about 8 to 10 inches deep. Which, by the way, they even sprout up through that!

Need some Mechanic advice?

i just had a friend tow a older mercedes to a new mechanic who works with foreign cars. It needed a head gasket so when i took the car to meet him and drop it off he told me he would work for 70 a hour. Later that day he contacted me after running some kind of gas test to verify it needed the gasket. He had told me parts and laborer i would be looking for around a thousand dollars. I had decided to go ahead with that and asked about how many days it would take and he told me about 2-3 days. it was Tuesday i had dropped off the car. i called thursday to find out what the deal was and when i should pick it up he then told me that he had shipped the head into have test to make sure it was not cracked or damaged. After reading online that the text usually take about a day i decided to have my wife call friday when i was working and he had told my wife he had got the head and everything was fine and the car would be ready by monday. Today i called to find out when i should have a friend take me up to get my car and i was told that they were waiting for a new piece? the piece is a timing chain guide. i kinda got upset and told the women the mechanic told my wife my car would be ready to be picked up monday and all the pieces where ready just had to put the gasket and head back together. he said that usually takes anywhere from 5-9 hours. I dont know whats up with the timing chain guide but i never was asked to have that replaced also could he have damaged it while working on the head gasket and needs to be replaced and is going to expect me to pay for it? i dont know this mechanic i was referred by someone and read alot of online review from local on yahoo that says good things. i just dont understand why it would take him as long as it is then to all of a sudden say it needs this new piece or does this piece get replaced along with the valves and the gasket he told me that the head gasket kit comes with? also i know my wife called to talk to the mechanic after i did cause i was loosing my cool but she lost hers to cause they did not give any information or tell us how much longer this is going to take. my wife said if the car was not ready by tomorrow we would have it towed to someone else cause of the time and all this hassle. I could have paid a little more for someone who specializes in Merecedes. he does charge more but at least i would have my car running by now. should i be worried that he might do something to my car to hurt it after i drive it so i need to replace something else? i know it sounds stupid but i need some mechanics input on what to think and do. thanks

How tall should my tomato plants be now?

It depends on what kind of soil is in your yard. If you had them in potting soil, that's made to encourage plants to grow. Sometimes the dirt in the yard doesn't have the nutrients potting soil has. If they're only 4 inches tall, they probably don't have a large root system yet. You might dig down about a foot all around them and transplant them again. I put my tomatoes into Home Depot buckets (two buckets stacked together). I drilled holes in the bottom of the top bucket and drilled a 3-inch diameter hole in the middle of its bottom. I also drilled some holes into the sides of the top bucket about four inches from the bottom. I set the top bucket into the bottom bucket, put a plastic cup into the bottom of the top bucket, and filled it with a mixture of potting soil and fertilizer into the top bucket. I then put the tomato plants into the dirt mixture. The roots will grow down into the soil. I water about every other day, using a "mist" setting. Don't just dump water into the bucket. When you see water coming out of the holes in the sides of the bucket, you'll know you've watered enough. I got tomato plants when they were about two inches tall in little peat moss pots. They're now almost three feet tall, and full of blooms. I also spray the leaves about twice a week. i expect them to start producing tomatoes within about two-three weeks (middle to end of June). I hope this helps.

Help!!! Cant get my wheel off?

So the other day I bought a 1998 dodge ram 2x4. I am now trying to put front brakes on it because they are shot. Problem is I can not get the driver front wheel off the rotor due to rust. I took the lug nuts off and even knocked the studs out to make it easier to get off. I have drove the car without lug nuts and studs still no luck. Used 2 cans of pb blaster and liquid wrench and hit with a 20lb sledge hammer. Also put a chain around the wheel and tied to tree and used my come-a-long and it still wouldnt give. Basically I'm out of ideas. I work on cars all the time and have never seen on like this. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated!

The rotor itself isn't all that worn. But I get a serious vibration when I hit the brakes. I figure the rotor is warped. But it would not come off. I hammered it mightily. How do I remove my once piece ceramic shower unit?

I recently purchased a condo where the 2 bathrooms haven't been updated since the 80's. The main problem are the ugly frog green full tub/shower combo and the 1 piece shower unit; also green. They're completely ceramic and therefore heavy. I'd like to remove them and install new updated units. How can I do that? Can I take a sledge hammer to them and take them out in pieces? When to re-pot a sunflower?

I would carefully re-pot into a nursery container that is at least 5 gallons. Buy some good flower potting soil and add a little bit of a product called SUPERthrive, (most big box stores carry it). You would probably be better off leaving them together but if you really want to separate them lightly shake off the roots and tease them apart as much as possible. The SUPERthrive has vitamins and hormones in it which help reduce transplant shock. Also a fertilizer high in phosphorous and potassium would help your flowers really bloom.

Frozen vegetables are equally as nutritious as fresh, in some cases more so because they have been picked and frozen at the very best time. The only thing I wouldn't be so sure of is onstant potato. If you mean something like Smash (a dried powder you add water to to make mashed potato) then that is not good and doesn't even taste that nice I don't think. Having said all of this - supermarkets sell packs of mixed veg already prepared so cooking them is just as easy as frozen veg so why not give them a go if you are worried about the nutrition value of frozen veg.

first i would not recommend 50/50 solder for it contains lead. this is no longer allowed on potable water systems. locate 95/5 or 60/40 solder, soldering flux,emory cloth or sandpaper and a map gas or propane torch. first clean the copper pipes end to where the fitting will be soldered, clean the inside of the male adapter. apply a generous amount of solder flux to both male fitting and copper pipe. heat the fitting and not the pipe, apply solder and when the fitting sucks in the solder, you should have a good penetration. check around the fitting and you should see a bright shiny ring around the fitting with no pits or gaps. this is basically soldering 101, best of luck .

Keeping dogs outside....?

With 17 dogs they would have to live outside. Its not cruel if they have good living conditions, other animals for company and have regular human contact but I would worry the the people may not be able to look after them properly. Dogs like humans become ill and suffer from all sorts of things which need vet attention. I have had dogs for over 30 year and have kennels but would not dream of keeping such a huge number of animals as I couldn't give them the attention they need.

What type of plant is this?

There is this plant in front of my house that has been there for years. At first it almost looks like a weed, it has a thick stalk and tons of leaves that sprout off it. At night these pink flowers open on the plant and it is actually really pretty. This thing is tough too. Last night I was sitting at home, my neighbor came over and said he was having a get together at his place directly across the street. So I went over, his family was there about 7 latino males and 5 latino women, we are all having a good time. We were all drinking, and we were all outside in between two cars when suddenly one of the women ran over to me saying "you can't hit him like that!" and started hitting me (I never hit anyone to begin with of course) and at that moment all of them began to hit me, my 12 year old son saw the whole thing happen and began to try to helo me and get my family. I managed to make it across the street almost to my door when one of the men grabbed a sledge hammer out from the back of his truck and hit my leg with the hammer. My family was trying to get me into the house when one of the women attacked my 18 year old daughter. Once we made it into the house we called the police. They came and talked to us for about 3 minutes, then went over and began 'invesitgating" at the neighbors for approx. 15 mins. When they finally came to out door we invited them in and they basically said that the neighbors said I was calling them racist names and thats why the fights broke out. Also they said that I was the one with the sledge hammer! The police said the neighbors don't want to press charges and if we wanted to press charges then they would have to bring both families to jail! This isnt right something should have been done, we didnt get a police report and I dont understand why the police were talking to them first and why they believe them. What can I do?

Are you hated by your in-laws?

My in-laws really do not like me. I've been married for 10 years this year and they still don't like me. I am from another country but I became a U.S. citizen last year. I work full time and I go to college, I am a good housewife and I am a thrift person. I treat my husband very well and my in-laws know it. We don't have kids. They told my husband that they don't like foreign people. But my husband chose me to be his wife and that's how it is! I always treated them with respect and dignity. Every time they came to our house I served them lunch and was very nice to them. My husband's oldest brother threatened me one time back 9 years ago, because he too hates foreign people. Since he had a gun, I had to call the police. They didn't arrest him but he was booked for domestic violence (he yelled crazy things at me and threatened me). Anyway, after this incident, my parents-in-law hated me even more. My husband and I moved far away from them, about 6 or 7 hours drive. So now they hardly come here. My husband never really took a stand for me on this. I understand he has strong family ties, but I think he should demand some respect for me and him. What do you think? What can be done? I own two young ducklings who's wing feathers have just started growing, and I've noticed a problem. On Saturday, one of the ducks new wing feather "sprout" had snapped, therefore bleeding and making a horrible mess. Then it happened on Sunday, but on the other wing. At that point I didn't ask about, because I wasn't too worried. So, in the night, I put them in a small crate that we had. (the one they use for transporting meat chickens in) So they spent the night in the crate and the wings didn't start bleeding. I thought it was ok, so I didn't do it on Monday night. Today, I found the duckling all bloody with both of the wings bleeding. A bit like pattern. What could have caused it? How can I stop it? Will she survive?

3 yr old son broke his tibia and still limps - should my husband be so worried about his future development?

I planted seeds, but now?? HELP!!?

I planted herb seeds according to zone directions and all.. They have sprouted and the basil is the only one that looks halfway decent.. All of the seedlings (basil, catnip,cilantro,dill, chamomile, lavender, and rosemary) are about an inch tall, but have stopped growing, and wont stand up!! Martial arts (especially Taek Won do) is also a lot of fun and its a good workout when you push yourself. I have visual hallucinations?

I'm 18, female, and I've been hallucinating pretty regularly for as long as I can remember (like... preschool). I've never been on any drugs. It's everything from insects to plants where plants obviously can't grow to people just standing there to ridiculous things like Easter Island heads speaking foreign languages. It's only rarely ever been "scary" or "malicious", and I can always tell that it's not reality and consciously ignore it. Schizophrenia does run in my family, but, as this has never ever caused any of the "social" symptoms of schizophrenia, could that still be it? I'm a beginner at growing cannabis. I started by germinating two seeds that come from potent strains. One that was so dark green it was almost black and the other was light green. The lighter shaded seed never germinated but the dark green one sprouted a small root hair in less than 36 hours. I let it germinate for two more days. The root hair became as long as the seed and I was eager to plant it. I put it in a plastic cup about 1/8th inch deep, root hair face down, and packed it gently. Do Marigold plants come back to life after they die?

I recently got a Marigold plant. I watered it everyday and it grew really fast. I mean I would check in on it every couple hours and it would have grown and sprouted something else. I can lay on my right side for maybe 10 minutes and it gets to where it hurts even worse! Like when I go to roll over it feels like the two bones that run throughmy groin ( I actually refer it as my cooch) are about to shatter! Just walking hurts...feels more of like somebody has a long needle and has a sledge hammer, hammering it right on in! I sit down to out my pants on, I sleep with a pillow in between my leg, I tried doing the whole siting on all four rocking but that's like I might have to call 911 to get me off the floor type pain! The doctor gave me some muscle relaxer to help with back pain and some pressure! Yea it don't work! I called them today and told them I could no longer sleep on my left side and she said that was fine as long as I was comfortable! Which is never cuz if I lay on my back it hurts or I can't breathe! I know it isn't round ligament pains because those hurt around where i had a previous c section! I dunno I'm just at a total loss! Miserable, tired of not being able to roll, get out of bed or off the couch, or be able to dust my bottom part of my coffee table, get in and out of the tub !!! Agh sorry if I rambled and for all typos for I am in bed on my phone! But any great advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

What's wrong with my delphinium seedling?

The only seed that sprouted, I have just this one delphinium seedling. The leaves are now recognizable as delphinium, so it's much more established, but I don't know why it's yellowing. Is it too much sun for them? Living in SW Missouri. If there are diseases or bugs, it's my only plant. It would suck to throw it away. I did plant more seeds last week, so hopefully I'll get more. Any ideas? Should I put it in some shade?

Clean eating and food choices. Is it just up to you?

So I'm thinking of picking up eating clean. Of course I want to lose weight (need to lose weight) but eating clean is within my personal beliefs as well, so I think it may be something I can stick to as well as, hopefully, lose weight with. But in looking at a website, it claims that eating eggs and bread is okay. To me it seems a bit weird because aren't chickens injected with all kinds of crap to make them produce eggs faster -- eggs are also "unclean" no? and bread is cooked and preserved, isn't it? Is sprouted bread full of preservatives as well? In addition, they seem to approve of deli meats - massive salt and preserves aren't they? I can see stuff like hard salami sausage things because they are dried rather than cooked, but regular ham? What can do with these turmeric roots?

A while ago I got some whole turmeric roots, and they've been sitting in their bag for a while and I just went to get them so I could use them and most of them are beginning to sprout. There's one rally big one and a smaller one that both have pretty big sprouts (compared to the rest) maybe a cm and the other an inch or almost an inch. Is it possible to plant these two roots and have them grow into a plant, or would that just not work? Would they just die? If I could do this, how would I plant them, what sized pot, if they can survive in a pot, what kind of soil, how much water, what kind of light, etc... Thank you for any and all helpful answers! I am going to do a bit of research to see what I can find, but I figured I ask here first in case I just can't find some things I need to know.

The deck seems fairly strong, Samurai are very strong, but I do have one or 2 suggestions. Add Sensei's Divining Top, Isochron's Scepter, and Lightning Bolt. These will give you more usability. A couple good creatures to add would be Konda, Eight and a Half Tails, and Isamaru Hound of Konda. Konda is an absolute monster and EaaHT gives your creatures survivability.

Move away for community college?

I am a senior and will be starting college in the fall of 2012. It has been my dream to move to San Diego right after highschool and go to SDSU but I can't afford the tuition and don't have the required 2 years of a foreign language to get in. Rather than being stuck at a community college in my hometown, i have been considering moving down to San Diego after graduation, getting an apartment with a roommate or two, and attending the community college down there. The only problem is finding a job down there, getting an apartment, and saving up money to survive off of until i get employed in San Diego. Is it worth going through all this trouble to move down there or should i just attend my local CC? And, in the end, would it be cheaper, as expensive or more expensive to live down there in an apartment vs. going straight to SDSU?

I have a 1964 Jeep Cj5 with a Dana 44 rear axle. This is the older rear axle with the keyed end. The nut is removed and I am using a axle puller attached to the lug studs to pull on the hub. Would I be considered fat?

I am 5 feet and 110 too. Same boob size and I have big thighs too. That's just my body. No amount of dieting will get rid of thighs and boobs (unless you stop eating for good). What I am saying is that you and I both got big "parts" which is good and will matter when your an adult. Some people would kill for bodies like that. If you're a teenager or younger, people are gunna say stuff to make themselves feel better because they feel bad about themselves or are jealous. In other words, NO YOU ARE NOT FAT!
